AMU girls from IG Hall raise ‘azaadi’ slogans


As university is approaching towards its founder’s birthday, (known as Sir Syed Day or ss day) girls of Indira Gandhi hall at Aligarh Muslim University are protesting for very basic rights. The hall is packed with around 700 post graduate girls and is located at some 2 km distance from the main campus.
Yesterday, after the alumni meet there was arrangement for the cultural evening and the girls of IG hall certainly were denied from attending it against the previous permission. The reason being that there is no space available to accommodate anymore students. This behavior of the Provost has triggered the protest.
The protest is against the Provost of the hall, Farrukh Arjamnad, said one of the protesters. She is dictator, she asks apology letter and charges fine up to Rs. 200 without giving any receipt even if we are late by 5 mins from the last time of the reporting, concluded the girl.
There are also allegations on provost over maintaining no transparency in allotting the rooms and threatening the girls whoever dares to complain.
The protesters are demanding no less than resignation of the provost and seeking immediate intervention of the Vice Chancellor.
