In the case filed by three advocates Fazal Abdali, Mohd. Aman Khan and Maha Prasad and the petition by M Salman Imtiaz, President AMUSU (2018-19), the Allahabad High Court today issued directions to National Human Rights Commission to submit a Report on December 15 in the incident of police aggression at Aligarh Muslim University, in a time period of one month. The Court will hear the case on 17 February 2020.

The petition was filed in the Allahabad High Court challenging the forceful entry of police into the University campus, unleashing of the violence on innocent and unarmed students, illegal detention of students, damage to library, reading rooms, vehicles, ambulances and other University buildings and firing of tear gas shells, stun grenades, chilli-based explosives, rubber bullets etc. onto the students. Students affected by state sponsored violence has also boycotted the biased magisterial enquiry into the violence instituted by Aligarh Muslim University and updated the court about the same. The Union has approached the Allahabad High Court seeking registration of FIRs against the UP Police and Para-military forces, and demanding the constitution of a SIT comprising of officers not below the rank of DGP to conduct investigation and prepare commission report. However the court asked the petitioners to submit their evidences before the NHRC, that will submit the report to the court. The Court will examine the NHRC report and issue further orders.

In this regard, M Salman Imtiaz, President AMUSU (2018-19), has appealed through a press release, to all the students/, teachers and non teaching staff at AMU, who witnessed the state sponsored violence against AMU students, or were injured, illegally detained or tortured, to come forward and submit the personal accounts before the NHRC. “We ask all students to submit videos, photographs or any other related evidence to AMUSU or NHRC for further necessary action. We demand AMU administration to provide us with the CCTV footages of the university campus of the 15th December. We will provide the necessary assistance to the witnesses”, reads the press release.

The Union has also made a demand to ensure immediate resumption of academic activity in the campus, the resignation of AMU VC, Registrar and Proctorial Team.
