On the 72nd death anniversary of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi the Jamia coordination committee called for a peaceful march from Jamia Milia Islamia to Rajghat as a part of the ongoing Anti CAA and NRC protests. The march had barely crossed the premises of the university that a goon infiltrated in front of the protesters waving a gun at the marching students. The infiltrated miscreant goon named ‘Ram Gopal Sharma, who identifies himself as ‘Rambhakt Gopal’ ( 17), chanted slogans of “jai sri ram” and “azaadi deraha hoon” (take your freedom). The police stood indolent right behind him as he pointed his gun at the protesters.  He fired his pistol onto a Kashmiri student of named Shahdab Farooq who studies M.A Mass communication in Jamia Milia Islamia. The bullet wounded the victim on his left arm. The police were adamant and refused to move the barricades for the victim to reach the hospital and hence the victim was forced to climb over barricades whilst his hands bled. The offender Rambhakt Gopal was arrested.

Gopal’s Facebook profile reveals that he had preconceived this attack. He was constantly updating his status with remarks such as “take care of my family”, “am the only Hindu in this rally”, “now am going give these people their freedom”. “Wrap me in saffron on my last journey amidst slogans of Jai Shree Ram”. However, 2 hours after he was taken into custody his Facebook profile was deleted raising questions on the police’s integrity.

This incident comes to light after BJP leader and MP Anuragh Thakur instigated a huge crowd during the election campaign to chant “shoot the traitors” pointing to the Anti CAA protesters. A FIR has been filed on Rambhakt Gopal and the provocateur of this heinous crime Anuragh Thakur by the Jamia Coordination committee (JCC).

The students marched on to frontiers of barricade fiercely, occupying the streets and peacefully with holding on to the protest as an atmosphere of chaos and havoc. Three students were later beaten up by the police and the crowd was succumbed to disperse. The police had also detained a handful of students who were later released.

At a distance of 50 meters the police stood idle as a radicalized juvenile wielded a pistol at the peacefully marching students. The world’s largest democracy is relinquishing to the voices of dissent and is nearing a fascist authoritarian regime which seeks to annihilate the Muslim community.
