Osmania – Post T triumph

Inequitable and inept for many but a similar number may agree. If the University of Tehran was to Iranian Republic so was Osmania University (OU) to the Telengana manic. From ink to blood on one hand and academic shunning to days of fasting on another, any amount of accreditation unto OU may be termed as below par.

An important point of issue being that this tussle for Telengana was of no recent origin with roots tracing back to four/five decades (chiefly in 1969). From the period of those days were witnessed many highs and lows. Lately many temporaries and neophytes propped up howbeit OU always held its baton bright. The pith and pivot being the fact that if any political or social institution held a tight-fist then Osmania is surely topping this list.

A university with ‘A Grade’ and ‘Potential for Excellence’, this varsity has managed to keep up its reputation even in testing times. With the ante of T strife steadily on the rise after YSR’s abrupt demise, many even took this as a breeding ground for iniquitous dice. Any justification sought on the said issues were put to rest with the famous JAI TELENGANA bolt hole gest. From brimming hostel allotments illegally to making academics a comic play, even the concerned authorities turned out to be ineffectual. Hostels had ample of boozing in nights grey and messes were providing delicacies sans pay. Humbles became mighty (political benefits) and unions as always – haughty. And once this genuine yet exploited dream was over with, new aspirations sprung to prick. With elections to this newly carved state round the corner, sinew hookers of university and political brass refused to fade away. In the end came a double win with all major leaders being handed by major parties – vidhan sabha tickets.

With dust apparently settling down is seen a newly formed vacuum. Having no issue to take on is making the university students experience boredom. Honourable VC in the mean time failed to renew UGC’s ‘A Grade’ status before the stipulated deadline, insinuating that the fruit of so much wait is a sour lime.

Nevertheless authorities and faculty seem to be recovering from their lost teeth with efficiency gaining hand. Roguish brethren no longer have their T sanctum sway. Studious students may take endless sighs so also as foreign enrollments remain high. Emphasis gradually is shifting to curricular chore even as discipline is still dodged by sly.

With just a ‘de minimis ‘ period passing by, one can relieve that on the academic ground betterment is underway but to me is the question of whether this cherished OU of mine, sip-in the societal allergist wine? Would shunning the legacy of leading gigantic causes be fine?

Populist issues and academic chambers being sundered away may well be an order of the day but time alone may answer – Will Osmaians be vigorous enough to counter this vogue as abhorrently vague? Counter?  Better noise out a donkey’s bray!
