Demolition of Babri Masjid was not only an act following religious sentiments and emotions rather it was a well organized plan to establish the political identity of Bhartiya Janta Party.
Bhartiya Janta Party is the successor party of Jansangh formed in 1980 after the internal differences with the Janta Party. There was no traditional vote bank of BJP initially, hence it won only 2 seats in 1984 Lok Sabha election. BJP took this setback as a lesson and revised its policy. L.K Advani was appointed as its party president and then the BJP transformed Vajpayee’s moderate ideology to hard-core Hindu nationalist ideology.
In October of 1984 Vshwa Hindu Parishad under late Ashok Singhal launched ‘Ram Janki Yatra’ to stall Ram idol in Babri Masjid. It was all about to create the mass mobilization of Hindu in the name of Rama, although it was stopped by locals of Ayodhya as they made it clear to Singhal that they were not in favor of any communal trouble in the area.
After the gates of Babri Masjid were opened for Hindu worship in 1986 and Shilanyas in 1989 put in by the government led by Rajiv Gandhi with the collaboration of VHP, demand for construction of temple instead of mosque at the same place got political recognition. Advani in september 1990 started a rath yatra to mobilize public opinion in favor of shifting the Babri Masjid and rebuilding the Rama temple at exactly the same spot. Consequences of Kar sevas of 1990 and 1992 finally led to demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 1992 not by fringe elements but by terrorists which completely shifted the Indian democracy to a radical phase.
BJP got their reward in later elections as the ideology of Rashtriya Sweysevak Sangh and its alley got promoted. Extreme Hindu nationalist ideology of BJP is the only device it uses for vote bank as we can observe from ongoing incidents how social fabric in India is being torn. Issues like beef only burns at the time elections for the political gain. Babri Masjid demolition becomes the bench mark for the students and readers of communal politics and the extreme Hindu politics in India.
बाबरी मस्जिद विद्धसं उन लोगों के लिऐ मानसिक आघात था जिनको पालिटिक्स से कुछ लेना-देना नहीँ था यहाँ तक की वह लोग भी जानको किसी कारणवश हिँदुस्तान की राजनीति से पटाक्षेप हो चुका था, लेकिन इसके विपरीत कुछ बड़े और ‘शरीफ़’ नेताओं नेँ भी इस घटना के बाद राजनैतिक कैरियर अपनी चाहार दीवारी मेँ क़ैद कर लिया !
