AMU Students Union organised a candle light march to pay solidarity to the victims of New Zealand shootings and offer prayers to them whom the Union called ‘martyrs of Islam’.
In a press release, the AMUSU has strongly condemned the dastardly terror attack in New Zealand’s twin Mosques that killed 49 Muslims on Friday. AMUSU calls this deplorable act as ‘darkest day in the history of humankind’.
‘The perpetrators of terrorism chose Friday congregation and live streaming of the attack, indicating that the magnitude of this violence is unprecedented’, said AMUSU.
This attack is an attack on the Muslim community by Islamophobe. The Union raised a concern that it is high time that Global Community rises  and challenges the Islamophobia narrative that is being fuelled by the West. It has urged the government of New Zealand to punish the terrorists and ensure justice to the victims.
In India where Muslims in recent times since the ascendance of Modi government to power at the Centre have come repeatedly under ghastly attacks from gaurakshaks and mob-lynched in several places, the AMUSU has raised alarm on the growing fanaticism. The AMUSU has also asked the Government of India to provide all necessary support to the victims of terrorism in New Zealand and ensure that the Muslims in India remain safe from attacks from fanatics.
