Asma Khatoon is a 90-year old woman protester against CAA at Shaheen Bagh. Bilquis is 82-year old woman among the anti-CAA protesters. Yet another is Sarwari, 75-year old. These three old-aged women have been on continuous sit-in protest amidst the chilling cold nights of New Delhi. Their demand is BJP government scrapped the anti-Muslim citizenship act.
In an exclusive interview with NDTV Asma, Bilquis and Sarwari, being referred to as “Dadis of Shaheen Bagh” over social media, have categorically rejected CAA and NRC.
“Ask Modi, why we are protesting”, said Asma Khatoon. Kyun maa ko baitha huye hain sadak par (why is he keeping us (mothers) sit on road). She said that it is not possible for the people to give the proof of citizenship. Calamities like floods, fire can wash away everything from people’s homes. “Humse woh kagaz khojte hain (he is asking us for papers)”.
I can list down the nine generations of my family (she in fact did it during the interview), can Modi show us the seven generations of his family, asked the 90-year old protester to Modi through the interview.
We will not stop this protest unless the government withdraws it, said all the “Dadis” in unison.
