The Department of Mass Communication  in association with ‘Arivu’ YuvakendraBantwal (NGO) organized a program ‘Dhwani’,’ at St. Aloysius College on 6th April 2015 at Eric Mathias Hall. This program was conducted to raise awareness on sexual minorities.

Programme was inaugurated by Mr. NadamaniNalkur president of ‘ Arivu’ Yuva Kendra, Bantwalwho also addressed the gathering with his keynote speech. He said, that the difference between the  male  and  female is been followed from the years ago, which opposes the society to accept the transgender in practice. He also said that in the overview of mythology like Ramayana, Mahabharata there was more respect for the transgenders than now.

Dr. Poornima J , MBBS, MS, Gynecologist/ Obstetrician, addressing the transgenders said  health should be the first priority for them and she also provided them an opportunity to meet her personally and discus their health issues.

Praveen Nikhil, coordinator ofLingatwaAlpasankyataSamudayaSangha, stressed on how the society needs to change their perspective of thinking. His team comprising of Ms. Ramya, Mr. Prashanthaddressed the audience regarding the challenges faced by them and other sexual minorities.

The event ended with a vote of thanks and giving away of the memento which was followed by an open forum where the audience interacted with Praveen Nikhil and his team.
