Ferdous Ahmed Barbhuiya, the only Cabinet Membership candidate from North East India, came successful in the Aligarh Muslim University Students Union Election 2018-19.
The Aligarh Muslim University Students` Union (AMUSU) is the university-wide representative body for students at the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India. It is primarily responsible for building and preserving a healthy political culture and an atmosphere of open debates on the campus.
The Students Union Elections of Aligarh Muslim University was peacefully held on 3rd November. Elections are held every year for various posts; one for President, one for Vice-President, one for Honorary Secretary, and ten for Cabinet Members. The vote casting started at 9:00 a.m and ended at 5:00 p.m., the same day, vote counting started at 8:00 p.m. and was completed around 5:00 a.m. the following morning. This time, the event that’s a joy for all is the successful result of the only contestant from North East India, Ferdous Ahmed Barbhuiya, who is now a cabinet member of the Union awaiting only an installation ceremony, that’ll be organised soon. It’s now after decades that someone from the North East India, especially Assam, bags a position in the university’s elections. Barbhuiya was hopeful about his triumph.
Salman Imtiyaz made it to the post of President, Hamza Sufyan to the post of Vice President, and Huzaifa Amir made it to the post of Honorary Secretary.
To make it to the 4th position among the 10 Cabinet Members, Ferdous bagged 5810 votes! He was optimistic about this.
Ferdous comes from the village of Dodhpur, Cachar, Assam. The second son of Moin Uddin Barbhuiya and Bedura Begom Barbhuiya, both of whom are school teachers, Ferdous had his schooling from Al Ameen Academy, Badarpur to have his +2 from Sayyid Hamid Senior Secondary School, Aligarh Muslim University. After completing his +2 he was successful in securing a good position in the entrance exam of the same University to study at the Department Of English, with a Bachelor’s Degree course in Literature. He’s been well active in various welfare activities. He’s also the credit of being the only North Eastern who became the Zonal Secretary of SIO, Aligarh.
In an interview, Barbhuiya says that it’s not his success but of them who worked for to sew this, days and nights. He also said “I will be happy only when I will do something for them who heartily voted for me”. In addition he says he was always wanting to have a beautiful branch of the University at his place, North East India, and he will now work for this talking with the University administration as well as the Central Government, and has promised to be firm on the promises he made to work for the welfare of state and society, upholding the hallmark of his University.
It is worth to say that this university has given important figures for Assam particularly, Syeda Anwara Taimur (Former Chief Minister of Assam) , Moinul Hoque Choudhury (Minister of Industry), and many such prominent personalities. This year, the Assam Fraternity of Aligs are too aspiring for harvesting another strong voice for themselves through the voice of Ferdous Ahmed Barbhuiya. There’s a high-expectation and good hope in every heart. Barbhuiya, too, is dedicated to find a dais to speak of his people, and particularly for the community, and at mass, of his nation.
