“Dayar-e-shauq mera..sher-e-aarzoo mera..”(This is land of my hopes This is land of my dreams) are the lines that have filled the whole atmosphere of JMI with feelings of  proud, nostalgia and love. Established in 1920 in the wake of non cooperation and khilafat movement, often referred as first nationalist institution by its students has travelled a long and remarkable journey with numerous contribution in the making of modern India.

The celebration started on 27th October with elegant guard of honor presented by NCC cadets to the chief guest Professor Ved Prakash followed by flag hosting. Professor Ved prakash gave the message of inclusive education, creativity and inspirational thinking. It also inaugurated a three day long educational and cultural extravaganza which is a huge attraction among the residents of south Delhi as the university opens its doors for all during this three day long programme.full_size_20161029010613

The major attraction of the whole event is highly popular “Talimi Mela” in which various departments of university showcase their projects, models etc.  which are solely made and organised by students. This particular activity inculcates leadership and management skills in the students of university.

Among all the stalls the most popular and appreciated stall was by Department of Bio-sciences which provided FREE “know your blood group” campaign under the supervision of Head of Department Mohd. Moshahid Alam Rizvi. The students of M.Sc. under the guidance of teachers  did the job. The test was based on simple antibody-antigen reaction that gave results within a minute. Going by records by the end of day-2 more than 300 people got their blood group checked at the stall, that include both the students and local public.

Centre for innovation and entrepreneurship JMI also showcased many amazing talented project work by its fellows like drones which gave live surveillance, that can also be connected with android apps in this age of smartphones. They also had 3-D printers that was assembled by SONAL squad. As the centre encourages entrepreneurship one of the very encouraging story was of Simmi, also a student, who started her own online business of handmade items.

Centre for distance and open learning was offering spot admissions which is a very good initiative as that could help many people getting themselves enrolled who only see the university from the roadside. The desire for learning and light of education and knowledge can be traced in the eyes of every person present in the ground varying in age from infant to elderly.

Balak mata centre which gives vocational training to dropout girls also presented their stalls with brilliant craft and designing works. AJK Mass Communication center was trying to develop interest among common public towards Postcards which are getting extinct very fast. This project is also connected with PM’s “Sandesh” initiative. The students click pictures of people on Postcards which can be used to send messages.

The beauty of event is it that it has alot to offer to public,as the talimi mela continues in lawns at the same time in auditorium you have different lecture series, plays, competitions going on.On the first day there was a lecture by guest of honour Dr.S.Y. Quraishi(Former chief election commissioner of India). The second day there was talk by Prof. Deepak pental (Ex. V.C University of DELHI) on the topic- “controversies around genetically modified crops”

While doing university level programme the university did not forget its school students who got their chance to showcase their talents in various competitions in which other schools also participate by the name of Gandhi and Nehru trophies. There are platforms also for common public who wish to perform on stage, anybody can challenge himself to face stage and show the word what talents they hide.full_size_20161029010502

The Book fair is a feast for literary lovers who get books of all the major publishers. Mushaira evenings further beautify the gentle October evenings of Delhi.Screening of different  films that have significance and quiz competitions add different styles of people on soil of Jamia.

As Jamia celebrates its 96th foundation day it also sets its goals for coming years to earn more reputation and contribute more in nation building by walking on the path shown by its great founders who are undoubtedly architects of modern India who built this institution with the bricks of sacrifice and true nationalism.
