Wilson Bezwada was born into a Dalit- Christian family of Karnataka. The caste he belongs to used to be engaged in manual scavenging. He is currently the national convenor of the Safai Karmachari Andolan that campaigns against manual scavenging.
Safai Karmachari Andolan was kick started in 1995 to liberate the people from this degrading occupation and enable them to live with dignity. The movement spreads across 25 states of India.
Caste based occupation still plays a very ugly role in India. According to Wilson the society never allowed the manual scavengers to come out of this degrading profession. The root of the problem lies in the caste system practiced in India.
His fight continues with strong determination to eliminate scavenging and sanitation work from the Dalit community and abolish the caste system that still prevails in the country.

Listen to his narrative.
