Hours after BJP leader Kapil Mishra took to streets to confront with the anti-CAA protesters in Jaffrabad’s Maujpur, violence broke out in the area. Mishra made provocative speeches addressing the pro-CAA crowd and left the site on Sunday evening.
On the wee hours of Sunday-Monday, the mob belonging to the Hindutva groups started targeting Muslim houses through stones. The mob pelted stones on the houses of Muslims and torched their properties. On Monday morning, stones were allegedly pelted from Muslim areas on the pro-CAA supporters in response to the wee hour arson.
In the afternoon, the stone-pelting was carried out from both sides against each other while the police failed to bring the situation under control. The videos surfaced on social media in which it was seen that the police personnel were either standing by or pelting stones from the pro-CAA mob sides.
As the police did not make much efforts to stop the ongoing arsons and attacks, the mob went on rampage to target properties belonging to Muslims. Photos have emerged on social media which shows that the Hindutva goons marked the houses of non-Muslims by putting up saffron flags on the houses.
Shops, petroleum pump, dargah and houses were torched. Journalists were attacked after asking their names whether they are Hindu or Muslims. As on Tuesday afternoon the bloody assaults and arsons are going on, NDTV anchor Nidhi Razdan tweeted that their reporters were attacked by the mob and spared only after having confirmed that they are non-Muslim.
The torching houses, shops and attacking people went on whole day on Monday in the presence of police personnel. A video emerged on social media which shows that the police is asking injured people to sing national Song. A Muslim man was lynched by the Hindutva goons. According to the latest reports, 7 people including a police constable have been killed. Five of them are Muslims. And more than one hundred people got injured. On the other hand, anti-CAA protester was also caught on camera opening firing. He was detained by the police on Tuesday morning.
But the Hindutva mob continued carrying out attacks and arson in Muslim localities whole night on Monday. It spreads through Bhajanpura, Kardampuri, Dayalpur and Chandbagh areas. On Tuesday morning, it was started again. Properties and houses were burned and people were attacked in other areas like Yamuna Vihar.
This all continues happening under the police watch. The Police did not take any action against the Hindutva rioters and goons. Rather, they were accused of helping them to carry out the attacks and arson. According to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the police were not asked to act against them from the higher ups.
On the other hand, Kejriwal himself did not show his interest to tackle the situation. It took many hours Arvind Kejriwal to react to the ongoing organized attack against Muslim localities. In Monday evening, he appealed for peace asking people shun violence. But he did not visit the affected areas. He was tweeting on the ongoing violence but did not come to the ground to stop the violence.
Earlier in 2015 when a riot was about to take place in Delhi’s Trilokpori areas, Kejriwal along with his deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia actively took part to stop riots. They visited the affected areas along with religious gurus asking people to maintain peace. But this time, Kejriwal and Sisodia just tweeted about the ongoing violence.
However, on Tuesday Kejriwal held a meeting with the local MLAs and asked to take some peace march in the violence-affected areas. After the meeting, he told the media-persons that the police has not power to act against the rioters. That’s why, the police is not taking action against them.
Union Minister Amit Shah, whom the Delhi police reports to, also held a meeting with the Delhi CM Kejriwal, Delhi LG Anil Baijal and Delhi police commissioner to review the law and order situation. But this meeting did not make any impact on the ongoing violence against Muslims. The police is continued to avoid acting against the rioters. They are standing by far from the area where the mobs are unleashing bloody violence against Muslims.
