Last year Siksha O Anusandhan(SOA) university was everywhere in the national news because of the incident that took place in the university’s hospital. In the month of October, SUM hospital caught fire which caused deaths of many patients.
After this accident, the university administration decided that for next one year there will be no cultural festival in the university and following that it cancelled all cultural and technical fest of this year.
Everyone was waiting for 26 Jan, because every year university celebrates the national festival with full enthusiasm and joy but this time everything was different.
Every year on republic day, students of this college perform various shows at the university ground where thousands of local people come to see the performance.
But this time college restricted everything, college only allowed some clubs to perform with certain terms and conditions. The university gave a clear order to the college band that this time they would perform only on table and a acoustic guitar and nothing else, quite contrary to erstwhile shows of this band on the occasion of national festivals where they played everything like bass guitar, electric guitar, drums etc.
The observance of Republic Day this year was completely simple and non-pompous. After the flag hoisting, students had a parade march. There was no award ceremony of awards and cups. Unlike last year, participants were giver mere certificates.
It was clearly seen that wounds of that incident have yet not been healed.
