On a rain-dipped evening, a boy of age 9 looked out of the window and smiled as the cool breeze gushed through his hairs. The weather was beautiful and as some last remaining drops trickled down the window glass the boy’s desire to go out and play reached heights. In the rush of the moment, he got up from the bed but was pulled back by the tension of the glucose pipe inserted in his left hand. His father, sitting beside on a chair, helped the boy back on the hospital bed and asked, “What happened dear?” The boy replied softly,”nothing”, and went back staring into the infinity outside the window.

He had lost his mother in a communal riot a day before and he, himself was injured to death. Doctors had given up all hope as his left lung got punctured during the violence. Remembering his mom and the loving nine years they had spent together, tears floated in the boy’s eyes but suddenly something struck him. Rain had stopped, the sky was painted in crimson, but what drew boy’s attention was the beautiful rainbow, stretching across the sky as a garland. Looking at the wonderful canvas, the boy asked his father,

“Did God create that rainbow?”. His father replied,”Yes”.

The boy thought for a moment and asked,”If everyone in this world believes it, then WHY do they fight over the name of God?” His father was stunned, an innocent boy of nine years understood the simple fact which many educated adults fail to comprehend. The father couldn’t answer, all he did was hug the child and kissed his forehead. The kid died a day later but the question remained “WHY”. Maybe, someday mankind will find an answer.
